We will be travelling to the remote northeast of Cambodia to the Mondulkiri Provence, an area known for its incredible diversity of wildlife and large protected areas. Amongst these is the Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary, where we will be based for this trip.

Mondulkiri is also home to several Indigenous communities, with the Bunong people forming the largest group. Bunong people have deep cultural and spiritual connections to the land and play a vital role in the conservation of the region.

Over 9 days we will learn how tourism can support both community development and wildlife conservation, with our teachers being professional conservationists, local Bunong guides, and the land itself.

What’s Included

Important things to remember:

  • This trip offers many opportunities to see wildlife, but sightings can never be guaranteed. Wildlife moves in unpredictable ways and the welfare of the animal will always be considered before tourist experience. So please come with patience and a curiosity to learn about the humans, plant life, and any little critter you may see.

  • project.wild has strict policies against racism, homophobia, sexual misconduct, and any form of hate speech. Please know that none of the above will be tolerated on these trips.

  • When travelling to remote areas to see wildlife you may lose some of the comforts you are used to! Hot water, toilet plumbing, WiFi, and electricity are all things that can fluctuate so please be prepared to embrace a more simple way of doing things when needed.

Meet your hosts

Connie Needham

Connie, founder of project.wild, be on hand at every stage of the trip to answer questions, help you settle into each environment, and make sure everyone feels as comfortable as possible. Please note that Connie will not join on every activity, but will always be on hand at each site for anything needed.

Jahoo

Jahoo is an ecotourism project that works to safeguard ancestral Indigenous Bunong land, as well as protect the habitat of the globally endangered Southern yellow-cheeked crested gibbon. Our visit will help support vital gibbon research and conservation as well as community projects. Read more about tourism impact here.
Elephant Valley Project is a fully hands-off, observation only elephant sanctuary. They work alongside the local community to improve the lives of captive elephants and create a safe space where overworked elephants can rest, retire, and be rehabilitated. Learn more about their project here.

Elephant Valley Project

  • "If you want to get into wildlife conservation but don't know where to start, consider starting with group travel!! Connie is an AMAZING host with the education, experience, and ethics to back her up. You're hosted by local conservation guides and invited to important places like Jahoo and EVP who do such amazing work. This was my second group trip and I urge anyone who wants to learn more about culture and wildlife to consider going, it's so beyond worth it."

  • "I can speak from experience, this trip was LIFE CHANGING. Honestly one of the coolest trips I’ve been on, that also ACTUALLY felt like was being taken seriously in terms of ethics. So many times things are sold to you as ethical but it still feels sleazy or just straight up a lie. Not this. If I could (and maybe in the future who knows??) I would 100% do this trip again."
